As our trees’ green leaves begin to turn to burnt auburn, blaze orange and radiant red, we’re reminded of the beauty that every season holds in Maine. Fall has to be one of our favorite seasons and one of the best times to visit Acadia National Park. Peaking during the middle of October, Maine’s fall foliage can be tracked at mainefoliage.com. You can even sign up for weekly email updates!
If you’re looking for an active way to take in all Mount Desert Island has to offer during the fall, plan to register for the Mount Desert Island Marathon. Happening on October 18, runners from all around the world will take part in a race that Runner’s World called “most scenic & runner-up Best Overall Marathon” in America. ESPN called it the “most scenic destination marathon in North America” and Men’s Health Magazine named it one of the 11 races to run before you die.
The 26.2-mile race takes runners through downtown Bar Harbor, over the ridge between Champlain and Dorr Mountains, and into the village of Otter Creek and as runners travel along the route, they’ll be able to overlook Seal Harbor and the Cranberry Isles. At the halfway point, runners will find themselves near the mouth of the only fjord on the Atlantic Coast. More information can be found at www.runmdi.org, along with registration information.
Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park and Mount Desert Island are awaiting your arrival! There’s still time to plan a fall getaway with us.
Send a postcard from the porch, where the afternoons are golden, and time seems to slow down…that’s Yellow House.
We look forward to welcoming you this season,
